Well that settles it, i guess I need to have all my gear ready by spring Im gonna be rather busy with work in the months of april and may, by busy I mean 12 hours a day 7 days a week till the jobs done, so i wont be able to swing anything untill end of may. Good news is Ill have a decent amout of cash saved up so I can get some gear. I feel so foolsih, I have lived in this area my whole life and didnt even know the FLT existed, Iv always camped at either letchworth st park, stonybrook ADK, or private lands. Im down for a group trip my goal is learn enough in the next few years to be able to take my son when he gets older..

ETA.. I thought just occurred to me, come that time of the year it will be trout season, if anyone knows a good place to camp and hike along a good trout stream im up for that aswell

    +1 for the Rochester Area!!!

    Welcome 556 !

It Awesome to see soo many hangers in the Rochester/WNY/ CNY area.

I presently do most Scout camping but I would defintely be in for a WNY/CNY hang. Unfortunely I wont be doing much haning during the next 8 weeks. I have to get a hernia repaired after New Years. But come March I'll be ready for the trail.
I will also be starting my training for a Philmont 2012 trip that I leading for my boy scout troop.

Excellent...would be a great time...I myself am an Eagle Scout...class of '98...and did Philmont during the summer of '96...was a great time...usually camped with Scouts at Camp Schoellkopf and Scouthaven...super fun times there...some of our best campouts were during the winter were at Scouthaven, across the street, up the hill in those decrepit lean-tos...i totally miss camping with all of those people once a month, back in scoutting days.

Here's the coords of the trailhead... I'll have to do some digging to find more info on the actual campsite up the mountain.

About a quarter mile off the trail in Italy Hill State Forest. There is a large opening with an old oak tree in the center with an old fire-pit surrounded by a forest with perfect hammock trees all around. Water is close by too. I call it "my secret spot", though I share it with everyone.
