Recent "Winter bivouac" in Northern Germany, first international HF hang in Europe?

    Dear co-hangers,

I got the idea a good while ago and now a couple of weeks ago decided to set the whole thing in motion: I invited a total of about 20 outdoor interested friends plus their families to my first "Winter Bivouac". What was the whole thing about?

Well, a short hiking distance from our farm in Northern Germany, I had earlier found a beautiful clearing in the woods. There, on Friday morning I set up camp. This had in style a lot more common with traditional hunting camps in the Rockies than with the high-speed Gucci hammock camps I normally favor.

Out of the large bunch of invitees, about 10 friends and families had shown up at various times during the weekend for either just the day or to spend the night. What I was very happy about, is that 2 fellow HF forumites from Denmark ("TheWild" and "Bomber") and Jan, a joint friend, had also confirmed and showed up. Since we never met before, this was my first online date

The entire weekend was spent on site in the camp with the short walk or other activities in the boonies here and there. As you will be able to judge from the pictures, a lot of outdoor cooking and eating was involved, too. I absolutely love to cook outdoors over the open fire or in dutch ovens or otherwise, so during the weekend I had plenty of guinea pigs for that!

The whole party turned out quite ok, there absolutely will be a repetition next year.

OK, here's the link to Picasa, let me hear what you think:

    All the best, Saupacker.

Great pictures. Thanks for posting them. Looks like everyone had a great time, including the dogs. Loved the tent with the wood stove inside. Nothing better than dutch oven cinnamon rolls on a cold morning!

    What a great campout!
That was a beautiful place to camp with friends and family. You had everything... snow, kids, dogs, fire, great food (you can't go wrong with steak, potatoes, corn on the cob, and cinnamon rolls) and lots of "smiling happy, people". It's always good to see the children enjoying camping.

For those reading this, get your coffee, put it on slideshow for at least 5 seconds and enjoy.
    I watched it twice.

    Saupacker,
What can you tell us about that cashew-walnut delicacy?

    saupacker,
Mensch, das sieht aber gut aus. Many years ago I lived in Celle and then later in life just north of Hamburg in Hennstedt-Ulzburg. Your pics brought back some wonderful memories of northern Germany. Where was the gluhwein?!
