I think the guy who missed his hammock & didn't know it was a college age guy
Hey! I *AM* "college age" too

Don't remember the incident you mention; but, some kid did walk right into my set-up which pulled up a couple stakes - no damage. Just laid him out on his back and he didn't move for awhile

Biggest Disaster: Two guys set-up their tent near me, all settled in, sat down and dropped their expensive GLASS bottle before it was even opened

Most delightful: A wonderful lady who had hauled up 50-60 POUNDS of breakfast fixin's for everyone to share! Eggs, bacon, cinnamon buns (!), pancake mix & eggs. Amazing!
    Happy Trails,
    J.D.

I never drink water. I'm afraid it will become habit-forming.

cooldays -Hopefully you will be there in my absence this year!

People do congregate near the Shelter where you will find plenty of trees. And, there's a big open meadow above the Shelter where most of the tenters are set-up - usually a big crowd up there. Water is near the Shelter and there are 2 free standing toilets with great views

Let us know what a great time you had!
    Happy Trails,

I was there last year and plan to be there this year...it is an AT tradition more than a hammocking event but there were hangers there. This 'event' its pluses and minues as alluded to above. For me just being there is enough. Springer is a special place considering so many dreams begin there, and there is always weather there to test/play with gear.
Last year I got there well after dark--maybe there had been a party but all I heard was snoring. The next morning everything was seriously iced over in a beautiful kinda way.
