My hammock goes on the inside - tarp stays in an outside pouch.

My hammock (30oz) and food are the heaviest things I carry. Heavier items should ride high, against your back to prevent pulling on your shoulders. I keep my tarp outside, seperately as it's more than likely to be wet. I also like to set it up by itself for shade/rain over lunch or when in need of a nap.

I pack my tarp in a sil compression sack and put the end cap over my hammock bag so it all gets compressed together. I put that package right between my shoulder blades inside my pack.

Outside, oh wait a minute, my pack doesn't have an inside!

But if it did, the hammock would be on the inside and the tarp on the outside. As it is now I keep them separate; the tarp has its own MacPouch on the belt.

Sorry Rat not following you. What do you mean your pack doesn't have an inside? I did a google on Macpouch and it came up with makeup kits, very strange...
