Thanks, I had thought of that. The grand kids kind of adopted it during their last visit. After being use for a "Fort", I didn't feel I could return it. It does now have a use.
Slo, Try stuffing the blanket into the stuff sack instead of rolling it up. It fits easier that way and actually helps to soften up that scratchy dyed surface a bit. Rough it up!
I actually own two USGI poncho liners. One I use as a "Tarp" over the netting on my JH to create the little micro climate. I still think I'l use the second to make a No-sew UQ and maybe use a thin foam layer sandwiched between the layers.
As far as how cold do I want to go? Humm... Isn't that a challenge?
With just a Military CCF and sleeping bag I was comfy to mid 30's. Sunday night I was downright WARM @ 28° but I was using a large sheepskin rug between the two layers of my hammock. I'll give that another try tonight @ 11°. The Sheepskin is heavy and usually cost prohibitive, but it was a Goodwill find @ $30. While not something I would want to hump in a pack, if I'm pulling a sled, or in a canoe on the river, it would be hard to beat. I would like to say I can hang with 0°.
For a packable UQ, I just can't put the capital towards a down ready made.
I will try my foam assisted PL. I may pull the trigger on some IX though.
I'll keep ya'll posted.
