I have an NX150, and the only reasone I didn't get the clark tarp, and got a larger after market tarp is for privacy. I do alot of camping with the scouts. I think if I where to do a threw hike I would want a smaller, lighter, and more compact tarp like the xl, or vertex.

My only gripe with the Clark XL tarp is that it has three tie outs on each side. I ordered an OES Deluxe and am much happier with it. It doesn't seem like two less tie outs would be significant but it was for me. Less time to set up..... less lines to tangle when it's in the bag....easier to set up a porch with two hiking poles. Both are tight and provide good coverage....both great quality.

I have an XL and love it. I put small shock cord loops on th plastic rings then slid a cordlock over the loop and pushed it toward the plastic ring. Then fold up your guyline, open the shock cord loop, place the loop over the middle and cinch it down with the cordlock. No more tangles and no more floopy lines.

I like the middle tie out actually, if its windy it really helps and you can get a great pitch with it. I've used mine in some pretty hairy conditions in terms of wind and rain and its been absolutely fine.

I bought a superfly too for when I have more gear with me which needs to live on the ground, and the superfly is even better for more extreme conditions, but in the summer, i ll be using the clark xl every time (or my own hex I just made, i ll play around with them)

NickJ, that is EXACTLY how I do it!

Seems that great minds run on the same track.
