festus - that's simply crazy! but i'd be rigth there with you if i was that close.

i've got the bottom cut, using a dwr 1.1. the IX is sewn to the edges and the center is pinned and holding. i cut the top, hemmed the edges, about to pin/sew one side of the bottom to top and then pin the other and do a fit. my circumference is 105" right now. i made it a little large in the event i screwed something up. i will probably remove 5-10" off the top material. right now the top width is 45" while the bottom is 60". i'm more concerned about having the IX wrap up and around me, which is did on the first fitting.

    entry to sock

i'll throw this one out there - i'm leaning towards a zipper entry with two sliders. i'm also tossing up the idea to use a draw cord at the head for a double entry. aside from possible air leaks and it not being as clean are there any other reason why i shouldn't do both or one or the other?
at the foot end i think i'm going to do an 8" diameter opening reduced down to 3" opening via shock cord.

    It's Finished

so after some time, it's finally done. i think it turned out pretty well. it fits my HH really nice. i have enough room for my winter UQ and I added draw cords in case i want to pull it up closer if i'm using a 3 season UQ (next project)
i also attached a couple pictures of the UQ i made and TQ to show my winter set up. I've gone down to 0F comfortably but with the help of a hot water bottle. i'd like to see how cold i can go now with the sock - looking forward to the feb. trip the group has planned.
the total weight of the sock is exactly 14 oz,..didn't plan for that, just worked out nicely. 6" of loft on the UQ and about 5" on the top.

    BOM
3.2yds of 1.1 DWR coated from wally world ($4.91)
    3.2yds of 1.1 (maybe it's 1.0, it's pretty transparent) breathable ($4.91)
3yds of IX from tree to tree ($19.50 w/shipping)
40" of 1/8 shock cord from Scott @ BWDD ($1.00)
    2 cord locks ($0.50)
    7.5' of zipper coil $2
    2 double zippers $0.5

around $33-$36 depending on how you want to look at shipping and left over supplies. i would say probably 12-14hrs into it simply because i was doing a lot of fittings, a lot of hmmmm's i wonder and remeasures. the project didn't cost a lot, i just really hate making mistakes. it could have probably been done over a weekend but I stretched it over 2.5 or so.

Looking good, Bloomgorge! Did you dart your IX? I think this will be my next project when I can fund it.
