Kinda looks like the NASCAR version of a tarp . . .

The only place I like gromits is in canvas tarps, pro built

they have the heavy equipment to really crimp them in solid.

Maybe you could get Dupont to pay you for the advertising.

tyvek is waterproof inside out. i make two bag from scrap. one each way. i filled with water, hung in shower and not a drop in 3 days.
also it can be stained. once washed at least 5 times lay it on flat surface and scrub stain in with a scotch brite. let dry and wash one last time. it won't be dark, but tinted and grained.

Yeah the advertising comes with the territory. Its a $4 tarp to me as all I had to buy was the grommets. I really wish it would have held in the strong winds. I'm in the process of fixing and will be back out tomorrow for some more tests.

May I recommend no grommets etc. You could leave the material long and taper it at each desired attach point then use a sheet bend to attach the guy lines. It wouldn't be as pretty looking but I'll bet it would be strong. I hope that makes sense.
    Good luck,

I thought about a sheet bend but decided on grommets and use a sheet bend if there was a failure.

Did you reinforce the tyvek where you added the grommets? I generally do not like grommets, but I want to make a tyvek prototype tarp and think grommets will be easiest.

Yeah I put 3 layers of Tyvek tape over the corners and then folded up the corner to double that to 6 layers of tape and 2 layers of Tyvek. As I stated it pulled through in the high winds. It was much windier than i have normally backpacked in in the past so it probably wont be to big of an issue.
