Help me make it through the night...

OMG, did I really say that..that was a song right??

OK I've been planning to do a back yard gear check tonight, since it's forecast to drop to 25* tonight here in NE TX. I just read Just Jeff's post, and I need a bit of advise.

    Here's what I'm working with:
    Traveler with 3-season deluxe UQ
    3-season Burrow
BMJ Tarp (with new doors )
3/8" thin light pad (doubled over)

My gear is rated to handle this temp, although cutting it kinda close, which is why I'm anxious to test it.

I sleep very cold, so I also have if needed, Montbell inner liner jacket and pants, Goosefeet down booties, and a fleece balaclava as well as a fleece cap, wool glove liners, base layers, fleece.......

I've never slept outside in these temps before, have no idea about condensation...would it help to use the bug net or will the tarp help?

The good news is that I can bail come in the house and climb under my down comforter. But that's not what I'm hoping for.

Any words of wisdom would be appreciated

You don't have to go inside half way through,
but adjust in the middle of the night if needed.
That way you have tested one, two, or three, different gear combos

You really won't know until you try it. Everyones cold tolerance is different.
I'd say go for it. Like you said you are 20 feet away from you down comforter.

Hope to read your report tomorrow.

    Happy NewYear.

Just did 22* in similar gear with no problems. I'd say you won't need everything you've got. Be careful not to overheat.

Bug net will not do much but a tarp will cut down on wind.

Stomach full of warm food, hydrated, void bladder. These things will all help. As mentioned earlier, don't overheat because then you'll sweat and that will be way worse. Also, start with a minimum and add layers in the smallest increments possible until you get perfectly comfortable. At that point you'll know what works for you, as everyone is different. I slept in 26* weather with a self inflating pad, and a 20* synthetic bag wearing only my skivvies and a fleece hat, and was plenty warm all night. Someone else might be freezing in the same conditions.

Kristofferson wrote the song. Couldn't sing a lick, so others recorded it.
