Amen, my friend. It amazes me, in so many places, how many people turn their noses up at hammocking, but haven't bothered to try it. That's just insane, if you ask me. I didn't get it before I bought my first hammock, and was even reluctant buying it. But it turned out in the end that it was all worth it. My skepticism was quite unfounded.

True enough. Good perspective on that one. If everyone hammocked, there would be fewer trees to use, but that would just mean we'd have to explore elsewhere. I think we should have "Hammockvangelists" to preach the glory of hammocks to all wh would hear. Reverend Hooch?

    2. why do most hammocker on hammock forums carry way more gear than they did when were on the ground,

lots of people post they need 3 quilts, a pad and all kinds of cloths to camp in the 30's or 20's

i still believe simple gets it done

    1 pad
    1 quilt
    i double bottom hammock neo
I also hang inside my house every night so that's #3.

    1. I hike at least twice a month with my hammock(s)
    2. I test gear and freak-out the neighbors in my yard (the neighbor part is my favorite!)
    3. I sleep blissfully through the nights inside in one of my hammocks

All of those combine to make me a very happy hanger and when I sleep on the Trail the only difference is I don't have to flush when I wake-up to nature's call.

I may or may not not agree with the tactic used to start this thread but I have to give it to him for devising a way to get some very intelligent and meaningful comments from everybody. "Good teachers use any means available to teach so that the majority has the option to learn."

Yes, this is a forum dedicated to hammocks.
Yes, there are times that we slip and go off topic a bit.
Yes, 99.9% of the people on this forum are considerate, well meaning individuals.
Yes, we all love to use our hammocks in our own way.

Talking about your hammock does however, require that sometime we talk about the "adventure" (and situations) that have lead each of us to change, modify, or rearrange what we do and are going to do with our hammocks, tarps, suspensions etc., so that we may fully understand why that person "did it that way."

As with any rule or guideline, there is the "letter of the law" and the "intent".
Thank you greatly for the intent. I feel this forum handles that aspect exceptionally well.

I have read some post and have wondered why they did what they did only to hear later what thier adventure was surrounding it. Then, in my feeble mind, the light goes on......

Now... to change the subject just a little.
May the "Light" of this season warm your hammocking adventures wherever they are!
