Some great info in this tread Thanks Shane
Is the peapod a good quilt when you want to sleep in the ground ?
Thanks
It would be great, but definitely over kill size wise. Kind of the opposite from some quilts on the ground. Which tend to be plenty big enough for most folks in a hammock but maybe drafty on the ground. But no problem with the Pea Pod on the ground. It is big enough to use as a full sleeping bag. Of course, it also weighs about twice as much as a quilt, as it is big enough to completely surround a hammock.
So, I would not make it 1st choice for a ground set up, due to weight considerations. But if you were forced to ground for some reason, it would certainly keep you well covered. And much better covered than many quilts would.
After seeing new life to this thread, I just had to go out and try my peapod with no extra top insulation last night. I just wore my work pants, cotton socks, golf short and a NF Denali fleece with a watchcap. At 5 am it was about 38° F. Aside from my feet, I was not overly cold. I was not overly warm either mind you. My Speer peapod never stops impressing me. It is not the lightest or the smallest solution out there, but boy does it have a ton of options to address about any temperature you'd dare hang in. ( I still need to try some small bags of leaves to see how far below 20° F it will go.)
