Some one mentioned no water or restrooms. Is true? We have been strictly car campers in Texas and we are used to hot showers! So how much of culture shock will this be? Anyone planning to paddle on Saturday? Thinking about renting a canoe once we get there.
Looks like a huge hanging group. I just got back from Hiking around Ponca today. The water looks perfect, flowing very well. Several kayakers were floating. Been warm here so all the snow is gone and roads look great.
I have maps for the people that want to hike. As for the floaters, I'm thinking about floating Fri, Sat and Sun... There are plenty of canoes to rent for anyone that wants to rent. I talked with Lost Valley Canoe rental in Ponca and there is no problem renting one. They did say u may want to take a dry bag with extra clothes.
For anyone that's wanting to float, we are leaving the campgounds around 9a both Fri and Sat.
There is outside water and toilets at the campgounds and I'm taking a portable shower and shower blind for use.
Earthquake in Arkansas over the weekend. Crazy!
There have been earthquakes for months. Not uncommon at all. These are called swarms. Comforting eh? We had the biggest one in this swarm this weekend though. I think it was a 4.3. Yeeeehaw! The area where they are happening is a couple of hours away from the Buffalo. Of course you know the New Madrid Fault is located in eastern Arkansas. There was HUGE one back in 1812 that is estimated to have been around 7.0. It caused the Mississippi to run backwards. They say we are overdue for the next big one so put on your big boy boots.
Having lived overseas on "the ring of fire" aka the highest earthquake concentration in the world, you get used to it. And yes being suspended is far better than being solidly set on the ground (hence most buildings in those areas being on stilts vs the ground). But yeah minor detail imo.
These quakes are due to all of the natural gas drilling in the area. They are taking gas out and putting water in the ground... the problem is they have not figured out the pressure thing yet. We have about 5 to 10 quakes a day but most are only 2.0 to 3.0. I do not think the Buffalo will be running backward.... haha... I think everyone will have a great time either way.
