    Here a Tarp .. There a Tarp .. Everywhere ...

... a Tarp .... but which one am I going to buy?

Spinn, black sill, olive sill to match the BB, digital camo ripstop or even blackout camo, olive cuben?

    How big will it be?

Get one big for bad weather and one small or just one medium ... how about doors?

    Side tie-outs or pole mod??

There certainly are a lot of tarp options. I guess it all comes down to how you are going to use it. If you want an all around general use tarp, I don't think you can beat a 10'x10' silnylon tarp. What ever color you like.

You can rig this tarp in just about any fashion you like. It may not pack down as small as others but it works so well in so many different configurations it's a great starter. I'm no tarp expert so take it for what it's worth. I've got a few different tarps now and I use the 10x10 more than all the others.

With that said I just ordered the Big Mamajamba and door kit from warbonnet. This looks like an awesome year round tarp for hammocking. You can use the just the tarp for most of the year and add the doors when you want them. Like during the winter. It eliminates the need to buy another tarp.

I haven't gotten it yet but plan on using it during a trip MLK weekend.

I've decided to get one for summer, one for winter, and one for fall and spring. I have gotten an Edge for summer. I have an OES Deluxe SpinnUL with an extra tie out on each side to pull in ends, pole mod and side pull outs for spring and fall on order with Brian. Waiting on fabric. And I'm still pondering my winter tarp, although the Superfly has caught my eye. I just wish he had them in Spinn.

I am a confessed gear junkie. However, it is my only habit left these days. And these are investments in my mind. Once I get what I need they will last a long time or at least until I decide to sell them and get something new.

I know, I know Mark but I'm trying to be frugal ... good luck there.

But, I really am having a hard time deciding .... and now I'm in the market for a bridge hammock ...... so I'll need a tarp that will work with it too.

    I'm liking this a lot:

And when using a bridge hammock maybe tilt the head end pole outwards.

I really like my MacCat Deluxe in Silnylon. Good all around.....not too small or too big. I'm having permanent doors added by 2QZQ which should make it a perfect 3 Season tarp, and possibly 4 Season (if I ever lose my mind & start camping in the snow). I had a 9X9 Kelty Noah, but prefer the hex shape over the diamond for side coverage.

I have yet to order what I call a proper tarp. I have a silnylon hennessy stock and another one along with an expedition I've never used. That tarp does very little for me, some make it work but no matter how close I pitch it to the hammock It still lacks the most basic coveravge. Eventually I'm sure ill have plenty of tarps but for now one "frugal" investestment for a all around tarp is what I'm planning.

I want low weight, low bulk and lots of coverage so I've decided on a 11' x 8.8' cuben rectangle from zpacks. Its pricey! But I get a fabric that will hold taut as a rectangle, plenty of coverage and tie outs including the option to make the ends doors, easy field repair, stregnth(or so I hear), all for around 6oz. Truth is I know only what I've read of cuben so this may be a gamble.
