    Couple more newbie Questions

i've got a few questions for you guys....

First: i am 260 lbs and am looking to make a double bottom hammock, could i use 1.1 oz or should i go 1.5. i've been told 1.1 may be have too much stretch.

Second: What do i use for the ridgeline ? Do i need to use amsteel or will any kinda cordage work?

Sorry if these questions seem overly simple but this is all new to me

since I don't really know how much weight the different materials will hold, the best advice I'd say would be to look at different hammocks and compair what they're made from and what they're stated at being able to hold. Check out Warbonnets site as he has hammocks made with several different weights of material and he gives a very good guideline for how to chose the one that will work for a person's weight/size.

About your ridgeline... The one on my Clark is not really weight bearing as it wasn't there when I first got the hammock and I added it (just plain ol cord). Now the one on my HH and my BB are both made from a pretty good line (looks like amsteel or something simular). If you're gonna use that ridgeline to keep a certain hang with the hammock, I'd want a pretty good type of rope there.

Based on the information on the warbonnet website, you would want to go with a 1.5 double layer hammock for maximum comfort.

My ridgeline is just paracord. It works fine for me, but AHE has some great dynaglide ridgeline whoopies that are on my "to-get" list.

Ridge lines are different things to different people.

If all you want is a place to hang your glasses or something to hold a mosquitto net out of your face, then just about anything will do.

A rl that sets the sag of the hammock is another matter. If you expect the sag to be constant, the rl length must also be constant, and that calls for cordage that doesn't stretch. 1.75 mm LashIt would be a good choice.
