A no tree hang question

I go on canoe trips out to a penisula. There are NO TREES. I am looking for ways to still hang, without a lot of weight/bulk. Oh BTW, it's all sand. I have used a couple of 2x4s standing on end w/ 2 guy lines at each end going to anchors and a ridge line in between. I just don't know if the anchors will hold in the sand. In soil, they work great. Any ideas?

When you say no trees, does that mean no drift wood as well? Lengths of driftwood could easily be lashed together as tripods on each end and a ridge between for a simple hang. You would only have to carry the rope/twine for lashing.

This was the only option on one island we camped on which was under the high-water mark of the river so there were no permanent trees, but a lot of drift wood.

There is little to no drift wood, atleast nothing long enough to hang off.

Whenever I'm putting stakes down in beach sand, I have to use the biggest, longest, wideist stakes that I have. Usually it's those big yellow plastic ones. I only carry them when I know that's what I'm gonna be needing. And even then, only when I'm kayak camping (never backpacking). There's an island I camp at that also has no trees on it and I have to sleep on the ground. My kayak is just to small to carry any long poles.

If you go to the Hennessy web site, you'll see a kid peeking out of his hammock. This was taken at the BSA Jamboree where there were no trees. They used a metal support tri-pod to hang from. Maybe try making sometype of metal tri-pod and using the biggest stakes you have to guyline-tie it out. This should be lighter and easier to manage than wooden 2x4's in a canoe.

Best of luck to you and if you still end up on the ground, well, at least you know that when you do find trees, you'll be back up in them.

Those might work in sand, you might have to take 4 short chunks of 2x4 or small squares of plywood and make deadmen. You also might take sections of bamboo instead of 2x4s to make your tripods. Lighter that way.

What length is the canoe? What type of paddle(s)?

Make two bipods ot of 2x2s, use an adjustable rl between them, one anchor on each end...use a 12" plywood disk. Bury those, and you'll be good to go.

Maybe a constructrion trip out to set up for a good spot. I wonder if a couple of metal fence posts (like the ones used for barbed wire) and a driver to stamp them in deep would hold. Then all you would need to do (on your next trip) is find your prepped spot and use the posts to attach a line for your bamboo.
