I had the same problem grich. Check Ramblin Rev's thread about sewing tips. Make sure the bobbin is threaded correctly and that the tension on the bobbin is good. All this stuff can be found from his posts.

I am also learning to use my new toy. If the stich lines are suppose to be crooked then I am good

The two open ended stuff sacks I have made work but they are not pretty.

Rev does have some good videos on sewing

I typically have more issues with the top thread for some reason...

The bobbin gives me grief if it put it in with the wrong wind. Clockwise versus counter.

loops under the fabric are from the top spool thread. Increase the top tension and _leave the bobbin tension alone_ unless you know exactly what you are doing and why you are doing it. What is happening is this... the needle pushes the thread down below the throat plate. The take up arm pulls that loop under the throat plate up to lick with the bobbin thread. If the tension is not tight enough the take up arm strips the thread from the spool leaving the loop down below.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

"Bless you child, when you set out to thread a needle don't hold the thread still and fetch the needle up to it; hold the needle still and poke the thread at it; that's the way a woman most always does, but a man always does t'other way."

I had this problem on my machine a couple of times when I re-loaded the bobbin. I'd put everything back together and sew a seam and there would be a tangle of long loops on the underside. Turns out it was the top thread coming off a little "saddle" that cycles up and down and has something to do with thread tension. I found I just had to re-thread until it cut it out.

I kept a little bit of scrap fabric which I always ran a few stitches on to check it things were threaded correctly before going back to my project . Saved me a lot of bad-stitch ripping.
