    Suspension length

I just made my first hammock and need to make a suspension. I think i am going to make a whoopee sling.
What is the consensus on the line length and on the webbing length?
In general, what is the average suspension length of any type suspension?
    Thanks

I think 6 feet would be good for each.

I have 11 ft on each end.

I don't need that much when using the 2" wide web straps
but when the trees are close I don't need my web straps even on a fair sized tree.

    I use 6' whoopies, 5' straps.

I generally have a fair amount extra (maybe just the perfect forests around here) but id much rather have too much than too little. Especially with the minuscule weight penalty of amsteel
    ...in it for pics.

I'm with Bradley. While most whoopies seem to be in the 6' range I've found that to be too short on multiple occasions. Sometimes I use very long 12' whoopies or I carry suspension extenders, 6' lengths of amsteel with a fixed eye on each end.

I have 6' whoopie sling and 6' straps on each side. Like Knotty I sometimes carry extenders but mine are 5'. If I don't have my extenders I've made my whoopies so that I can use them like a UCR and get an extra couple of feet out of them.

Anywhere from 10 to 15 feet should do for most situations. Of course if you are in an area with large diametre trees then more length is needed.

Being in Oregon, the trees are huge. My huggers that came with my HH are waaay too short. When I converted it to whoopies, I planned for the worst and, using 1/8" Amsteel, I went with 12' on each end. Only once have I had to use about 10' on each side. As far as the huggers, I have some seat belt material on order and will make a set around 12' long as well. Weight is of no concern to me as I don't hike 50 miles to hang. LOL!
