How to Keep Guylines Untangled in Packing

i do not do the figure 8. i thought it looked cool and gave it a shot but it took me too long to wind and i find it unnecessary. i simply wrap around my hand until there is about 2 feet of guyline left, then turn it perpendicular and wrap the rest of it around the existing loop. tuck it the last little bit and i'm done... takes me about 20 seconds per guy, and it never tangles. learned it here from someone...

after i'm done with that i wrap up my tarp with 2 of the guylines and tuck them in (making it a long skinny tube) then simply stuff into a blackbishop sack. haven't found the need for snakeskins...

This approach and the figure 8 have been suggested for years in old threads....Some of us add, finishing with a bight tuck...Thus it ends in a slippery ... Pull the end and unravel without and knots or hassle

+1 on the figure 8's with a couple loops to finish it off.

I use a figure 8 on all my backpacking ropes to keep them untangled.

How about the no-tangle line? My eno came with it and it worked great. Have had some tangle issues since I upgraded my tarp and went with mason line. Tree to Tree sells it: http://stores.tttrailgear.com/-strse...ine/Detail.bok

I've been rolling the tarp with the lines thrown in as I roll, as TinaLouise described. Works well.

Like others, I hank my cordage, but I finish it like the gentleman in this video. Then, you can just pull on the free end and it all comes apart; don't even have to unwind it. The hanking part starts around 3:45:

My guylines have bowlines in the end that I snap into a minibiner on the tie-outs. When packing, I wrap the guy lines (stake end first) onto a tent stake that in turn goes into a small bag with the other stakes and ridgeline.

hanking or what I do is fold the tarp over on its self three time using the ridge line. Then I roll it down to the bottom where the lines are still hanging and wrap them around the tarp
