    This is how I do it as well. Although I usually just use a local stick for a toggle found on the ground...

    I use a small figure 9 on each end and that had worked great for me.

    Been doing this for years. Nothing to carry and the stick used can be very small and easy to find. Doesn't have to very strong.

    One the other end I use an arrangement that TeeDee devised of 3 Penberthy Prussics and 2 small sticks for a toggle and a hand hold. Works like the trucker's hitch without the knots. Probably not as quick or easy as other methods, but I'm used to it now and the ridge line can be tighten or loosened very easily even with mittens.
