Hammocks have been used by people a long time before people started to "patient" ideas that already in use in other places for profit and to market.

I have toured the North Carolina as well. They used a combination of hamocks and "racks" made from metal tube frames with cotton webbing stitched into a basketweave pattern.
After my adolescent forays into the woods in an Army surplus jungle hammock I was the recipient of my Uncle's USN hammock. I found it to be difficult to enter, difficult to exit, and it severly pinched my shoulders. Also, anything other than on-your-back-banana-shape was impossible.

To me a timeline seems to suggests that the latest is the best.
How about an illustration of the different varieties of hammocks and innovations, maybe in a circular pattern showing connections between them. So Brazilian style hammocks near the bridge "resort" hammock next to the bridge camping hammocks. And then gathered end hammocks with ridgelines and separate bugnets, next to integrated bugnet systems like HH and BB and Switchback to total systems like Chrysalis, etc...?
Just throwing that out there...I'm sure whatever you do will be legendary, as usual.
