Hello everyone,
I first want to thank everyone on this forum for all the great information you provide. I am a southern California resident that has recently converted to hammock camping. I have recently started a new hobby which involves hiking, camping, pans, shovels, and a sluice box. If you can't figure it out, it is prospecting. Me and a few friends hike up to Azusa Canyon in the hopes to one day strike it rich.... HAHA, ya right. It is all about being in the wild and enjoying the company of the stream and friends.
I recently purchased an ENO double nest as my first hammock. I originally wanted a Hennessy Hammock, but could not find one at my local REI. My first camping hang was pretty interesting as the weather did not want to cooperate. I setup my hammock using the Slap Strap Pro's (aka-Stretch Kings) and added a Colman sleeping mat. I also packed up my 20º mummy bag. All went well for most of the night, but around 12am the winds kicked up and were blowing with about 50mph gusts. I must say I was blowing around quite a bit, reaching angles of about 50º. To make it even more fun, the guys we were camping next to said a bear comes down for a visit every night. So here I am swinging in my hammock at a bears mouth level, thinking I am going to be his next sandwich. Well, I made it through the night as I am still here and talking to all of you.
Anyway, I would love to setup my hammock with a ridge line, and whoopie slings, but really don't know how to do them right or set them up. I made a pair of toggles last night for the marlin spike hitch and I will be placing my order for some amsteel soon. If anyone hangs in SoCal and would like to give me a hand I would appreciate it.
