olddog here out of sunny central Florida.( down to freezing again tonight) I've been lurking for awhile and finally took the plunge. Picked up some fabric today and will start a diy. I've been wanting to get back outdoors but the old bones aren't what they used to be, shoot nothing else is. Dreaded the idea of sleeping on the ground. Thanks to all of you, that's 'ya,ll' down here, I believe this will work. See ya,ll in the woods.

Any chance you can make it to the FL hang in a week? I've heard some folks will be bringing some extra/demo hammocks. If your DIY isn't finished maybe someone on the list here will have one you can try.

I was thinking about checking out the in hang in Ocala just for the info but we lost a family member new years day and won't be able to make it. Looking forward to future hangs in the area and will try to join ya,ll.

Join the club! I love to backpack but as the years went by the ground got harder and harder. Then I discovered this place about 1-1/2 years ago ... and I'm asking myself why hadn't I switched to hammocks long ago!?

Welcome to Hammock Forums. I'm sorry to hear of your loss and understand you can't make it to the group hang, but I suspect us Sunshine State hangers are going to be getting together from time to time, maybe in smaller groups, so keep a lookout! This is a friendly place

most times we referr to hammock hangers as being "bear tacos" but I guess you hangers in Floriday are "gator tacos"

Gators aren't too bad except when some want to feed and make pets out of them. We did have a druggy a few years back who decided to go swimming at night. Took some police to save his behind, then they killed the gator, go figure!

Greetings from another FLA. boy.....yeah it got pretty cold last night..did my first hang so I was kinda; double testing...testing out cold weather sleeping, as well as testing out hammock sleeping...first impressions...not a bad way to go...get and play with it...there is a learning curve...but mostly have fun with it...keep us posted ...look at my intro and gallery for some pics of my first set-ups...the forums can help you out with everything 'cept personal experience ...
