Is this Carabiner ok to use?

Hi all, new to the forum but not new to sewing and am about to make myself and hubby some hammocks for backpacking.

I know nothing about climbing equipment but after reading the DIY threads the caribiners have to be able to hold 1000lbs? Is this correct?

Would this work for holding the hammock? I am not sure what the measurements are? kN = kilonewtons? lbf = foot pounds of pressure? Ahhh I hated college physics!

    http://www.usoutdoorstore.com/outlet...carabiner.html

    Weight: 50 g (1.8 oz)
Closed Gate Strength: 24 kN (5395 lbf)
Open Gate Strength: 7 kN (1574 lbf)
Minor Axis Strength: 7 kN (1574 lbf)

The closed gate strength is 5395 lbf, it will hold you just fine.

That will work fine for you unless your over the 5,395 pound limit.

Guess I'm going to have to lose some weight then

Thanks, I figured it was safe but second opinions are always good.

I'm convinced use of these biners is responsible for the Earth's wobble that has given us the new constellation: Ophuchicus.
I'm joking, I actually think it's from all the pants hanging too low; messed up our center of gravity.

And when you add that to a ball cap with an oversized brim hanging off to the side... that just throws it off even more.

I'd go for the smaller, lighter Neutrinos from Black Diamond. Plenty strong for the stuff we are using them for.
