    40 feet of roll hemming

i have just finished roll hemming 40 feet of 1.9 oz of maroon ripstop for my double gathered end hammock. It is the first time i have touched a sewing machine so the seams aren't very straight but i think they will hold up. i look forward to finishing it up tomorrow and i'll try to get pics up as soon as i do. Thanks for all the help!

Did you pin the hem first or did you just go for it?

    Knotty,
i practiced alittle with some small pieces then just went ahead and did the fold sew, fold sew thing. The hardest part was just the sheer length of it, trying to move it evenly while holding the fold right while trying to go straight with the stitches......it was almost more than my little ADD mind could handle! i will say that by the last 6 or 7 feet it was looking like a pro did it. i look forward to getting it hanging today!

I usually do same. No pinning, just fold and sew. Works and looks good enough for camping gear.

I'm doing the same tonight... DL RS 1.1 hammock body.
Haven't yet decided if it will be another Warbird or a Jerry 5.
Leaning toward the Jerry 5, since it will be easier to use in a hammock sock than a WBBB clone (difference is that the Jerry 5 has no shelf). I'll put ripstop mesh side panels on each side for better visibility and summer ventilation. Sorry to have digressed.

Anyhow, I started with a 22' x 65" run of RS, folded in half to get 11' hammock length and pinned that rolled hem (which will be either the head or foot end).
All the other rolled hems I'm doing "freehand".
Easier to get them straight-ish with RS because of the little grid pattern in the fabric.

Well here are the fruits of my labor. My lovely wife and my beautiful daughter in my new hammock. All the suspension is temporary pending arrival of my amsteel. Can't wait for it to warm up enough for me to try it out for real ( i have never been a cold weather camper)

From their smiles, I don't think they care if the seams are perfectly straight.
    Good work.
