    Winter Camping Site

Many of you may know this site, but I thought I would post it here for all you Eskimos who are planning winter hangs. This is a site similar to this one, but totally focused on cold weather camping and hiking (mostly in Canada).

I learned a lot there already, and the pics and videos are very good. The areas related to clothing, layering and footwear were especially good, I thought.

I agree with you both. I think it is a go to place for anyone that wants
to spend or learn about camping in the deep cold.

The information will keep you safe.

I am signing up for that site. Was browsing and saw The MN Winter Hang mentioned, the hammock curious, Fourdog was spoken of and even saw a lil' discussion on videos with mine mentioned.
    Seems like more good ideas.
I have done many a winter trip and still love learning.
Good to get out there. Especially if you live in Minnesota!!!!! I have no snowmobile .... I walk.

Yep. Some good references to cold weather clothing and gear manufacturers, too! The Cotton Anorak clothing, and others were pretty good links to bookmark.

Cold (or even really hot) environments require attention to survival skills more than just hanging out. One needs to have a good knowledge of body temperature regulation and moisture control techniques in either environment. The hanging/camping part comes right after that, in my view.

One cannot stop adding to the body of outdoor knowledge one is acquiring. This site was another good source.

Falling through ice and starting a fire

There is one recent thread that I especially liked.

They discussed a scenario of falling through the ice and needing to start a fire.

Lists and photos of waterproof fire-starting kits that are carried on the person because the sled/pulk/toboggan is still in the lake.

A poster from Norway (or Finland or Sweden) has ice picks that are carried around the neck to facilitate the process of getting out of the ice water.

Made me realize how much of an amateur I still am.

I originally started out a survivalist/bushcrafter and picked up hammocking as a way to enhance my comfort in the bush. All of these skills you really should posess if you spend a good deal of time in the backcountry.

Yet another fascinating springboard to a vast storehouse of knowledge and experience. Thanks many times for the link.

When I stop learning, I'll probably already have been dead for 30 minutes.
