    My Pod Experiment......

The MN Cold Butt Hang got me Pod-Curious!

As I was out practicing my act today ....I kept looking at my down hanging (major distraction) and after reading all these reports and all the Pod Posts of late I spied my 20º Western Mountaineering Bag and commenced to start hooking it on my hammock. I put on my FrankenQuilt DIY UQ and slipped in my NEW Hammock Gear Winter Insert/Summer TQ and crawled in. Sweating in moments but I was in my heated studio.
I hope to test this Thursday as it is supposed to be -10º.
Just goofing around with this .... the down does not seem compressed too much. I expected some!!!
I also have my frost bib hanging off of my ridgeline and it just slips around my neck with a big hole in it. Still under R&D..........
    OK then.
Thanks for inspiring some fun for me ya'll!!!!!!!

I get as much enjoyment looking at the stuff behind the item you are showing as the actual post Shug. Love the Clown shoes BTW!

Shug your Demo photos and videos always educate and entertain. He's right. Seeing some of your background items always gives a chuckle. Saw the clown outfit myself.
Still, the details you show in your setups always educates and informs us out here.

Needing some in-person demo's, maybe at the next Big Ditch hang...?

Hey shug. Did you just sew/epoxy on some kind of patch you can put suspension through or did you go through the bottom of the bag?

I was originally going to do this with one of my bags but didn't want to cut it up. Fantastic idea sewing/glueing a patch that you can thread the suspension through, and it doesn't affect the integrity of the bag. Keep us updated, I wanna know how well it works. Only seen one other sleeping bag DIY Pod/UQ

No epoxy or anything ... my hammock is just coming through the zipper at the foot end.
I'm looking forward to tests .... may have an evening hour or two in it tonight. Only around 20º here now.

    Shug, couple of questions-
How warm are the clown shoes? They seem a wee bit like the US Army Mickey Mouse boots.
When it is SUPER cold---zero and below---what about the skin around the eyes not covered by the neoprene (well looks like neoprene, it's black anyway). The other night at 1.6F my eyes were weeping a little bit. I figure enough body heat/blood is routed to that area to prevent frostbite? Well my solution is to sleep in a pair of goggles-silly? I've not gone below zero and would like to know how the pros do those temps.

If this rig works for you, will you DIY a dedicated one? If so, what modifications do you think would be done?

I normally would have a BlackRock Hat or Balaclava pulled down over my eyes.
The clown shoes are stuffed with horse hair .... pretty warm. Good snowshoes if you don'y mind being made sport of.

No .... I will just use this sleeping bag and hopefully not ruin it. I'll know more after I mess around in it. Headed out to the back lab soon here...... some play and video.
