    Which is the warmest ?

An easy one for you ...

Which is the warmest/best claimed rating underquilt on the market ?

Is it Adams Winter Incubator with the 900 fill and 6oz of overfill ?

I read the recent thread about which was best, fill type vs overfill, what was the agreed outcome because I'm struggling to find the thread with my searches.

I'm just looking at the options right now with a view to getting a better rated UQ in the near future. I've had a few nights this winter where my Snugfit has been close to it's limit so I'm thinking it's maybe upgrade time, winters over here seem to be colder and longer these days.

    Thanks folks

I haven't used all the quilts on the market but I can say this much:
The temperature ratings on JrB quilts are accurate to what I witnessed I was comfortable with on 3 of my JrB quilts. Ergo I would suggest that all of their temperature ratings are accurate for my sleeping comfort.

Also I have a Winter Ptarmigan from Stormcrow, and I think the temp ratings is a little conservative.

That might help you decide what to get.

Adams quilts are rated just right....i think he overstuffs his little more then others...JRB quilts are accurate as well ...and so are WB's
from what i know of Pauls theres spot on as well
most of the UQ's made by the vendors are accurate from what i know and used
so you really can't go wrong with any of them

6oz of overstuff would be way over kill the most i would do is 2oz
too much of a good thing...is not always a good thing
It puts the Underquilt on it's hammock ... It does this whenever it gets cold

I think those that camp in the negatives always double up - two UQs, UQ and a pad, or a UQ and a sock.

Well, maybe not all that easy. Shewie, while you are trying to figure out what you want to upgrade to, try throwing an EMS Heat Sheet (space blanket) over your Snugfit. If it works for you like it does for some of us, you will be presently surprised at the boost, not to mention your down should stay dryer.

A JRB MW4 is rated at zero to ten, ( but now with optional 900fp should=either warmer or lighter) without space blankets or anything else. I have only used mine to ~10F. But going by others reports, it seems that is a reasonably conservative rating. Though people vary widely in the amount of insulation they need. And of course wind and wet and humidity all effect perceived warmth.

A Speer PeaPod is only rated to 20F. However, especially when used with the right hammock, with a space blanket and the addition of a down jackets below and summer or 20-30F TQs, ( all very easily done) can easily be taken to zero or below.

The War Bonnet Winter Yeti is rated at zero torso only. It has an optional snap on space blanket/VB which should add a good 10F.

Winter Incubator 800FP rated zero. With 4" baffles! Optional 900 FP

    Thanks for this Billybob

Would that be on the outside of the Snugfit or somewhere in between the layers ? If it's outside how/where do you attach it ?

Another suggestion: put a sock on it. I'm betting that will put a smile on your face.

If all of this fails, and you end up with a new quilt, I would like very much to buy that pitiful, inadequate Snugfit from you.

I think there are too many variables to say "this quilt is the best".

Wind, temp's, individual user, fit of the uq (proper installation) and tq, clothing worn, humidity, VB's, and tarp deployment and size of tarp used, squirmy sleeper, hammock socks...

Overstuffed, down vs. synthetics, fill weight of the down, just too many details to narrow it down, IMO.

Unless the gear makers decide on a standardized testing system?
