Anyone attached pockets to the underside of DIY hammock, ala Clark...

Clark owners seem to like the pockets on the NX series.

Has anyone out there made a hammock with pockets attached to bottom?

I have no hammock-making experience (or sewing experience) but I wonder two things:

    - Would sewing anything into the bottom of the hammock affect the lay, be uncomfortable, or particularly susceptible to thread ripping out as fabric stretched, etc...

    - If this were a double-layer hammock design, what complications would adding these pockets to the outer layer create. I'd guess that if the pockets were loaded up, they'd sag away from the inner layer when the hammock were empty, but would snug up once hammock were loaded with a person.

I don't know if I'll ever get to/be able to build it, but a double-layer hammock that allows the option of an "inner" pad, with some Clark attributes like underside pockets and a weather shield system of some kind, is an attractive plan for me (all in camo, of course ).

The most daunting task is the zipper work...but unrelated to the two questions above...

I have mixed emotions about CJH pockets

I have a NX-250, and have attempted to use the pockets stuffed with spare clothing for insulation, but I ended up getting an underquilt as the stuffed pockets just didn't do the job.

For warmer temps the pockets come in handy for storage, but in colder temps any storage compromises the UQ's ability to snug up and insulate efficiently.

I have made six pads of Reflectix to fit the pockets, and hope to test them this weekend. I am hoping that their thinness will not interfere with the UQ.

As for DIYing, it seems to me that a double bottom hammock would be far easier to construct than a pocketed model. Clark has mastered the 3-D requiremnets for sewing their design, and from my perspective I do not wish to tackle that job on my own. Looks daunting!

    Good to hear....many thanks, Jim

I'd assumed the pockets were a good idea, at least from the perspective of storage (judging from the comments of Clark users).

From the absence of responses, it seems the wider community does not "miss" them, so perhaps as you say, they'd be more trouble than they are worth. For warmth, and UQ does certainly seem the way to go. I had also wondered about how full pockets would affect UQ performance, appreciate that input.
