    PLUQ + mummy

I have a trip coming up in Feb with the scouts. I want a down UQ, but that will have to wait for better days. I have a 30 deg mummy bag that I was going to attach loops and use it as an UQ. I don't think that it will be warm enough and was thinking about also using a poncho liner. Does anyone have a thought on this idea. I know not the lightest idea, but I don't have to pack it far. Which way would you hang it, hammock-mummy-PL or hammock-PL-mummy? Any idea on a temp rating? Any help would be greatly apperciated!!

It can work .... I would go hammock-mummy-PL. The poncho will help hold the bag snug up on the bottom.
Not sure on the temps ....30º to 20º. You will know after!

I made a UQ kind of simmilar to that one. I used a square bag and a old kids quilt. Did ok down to 20F but I wasn't toasty. I used an old coleman rectangle bag (single layer) and a quilt made with a single layer of polyfil of some sort. I did quilt in the bag.

Went looking for a PL, and found a few. One was new and about $30. The guy said it was made in China, and wouldn't last. He had a few "previously issued" PL for $10 each. So I scored 2 PL for this project.

Ok new question. I plan on using the hammock-mummy-PL. Any thought on if I should go full length with the PL, or fold it? Most of the PLUQ threads are using it as a 2/3 UQ, but since the mummy will be full length I was thinking the PL should as well.

I would go full length but I'd think I'd want it doubled up. Have you thought about maybe lining the outside of the PL with a mylar blanket? Same concept as the SS as I can tell from watching the vids. That might give you the benefit of the same warmth without having to double over your PL.. just an idea. I'm keeping tabs on this thread because I'm thinking of trying the same thing out. Lookin' for a cheap way to get out into the cold too.
