    DIY Ogee tarp

Finished construction of my version of the Ogee tarp around 2am this morning.

Hope to be done with work in time to hang it outside to get some pics today. If not, will have to take pics tomorrow. I hung it in my bedroom last night and was surprised how big it felt, for a tarp that is just a single 60" wide piece of sil with small wings.

Here are a few construction pics to hold over until I can get the full write-up done.

    Remaining tasks:
    - make tie-out lines
    - seal seams
    - make a stuff sack or skins (can't decide)

We would be one step closer to world peace, if everyone slept in a hammock..

    Very simple.
    The 15-91:
    - does only a straight stitch by default
    - sews forward AND reverse (I think that was a big feature back in the day)
    - can do variable length stitches
    - has a knob to adjust top thread tension
    - has a screw on the bobbin holder for bottom thread tension
    - has a bobbin winder that runs via a wheel that rides the hand wheel

I've got feet to do a variety of things like hemming, binding, and a bunch of stuff that is useless in gear making (ruffles, etc.)
Also have a manual button hole attachment that I haven't tried yet.

She's mounted on a hinge in a table top and swings down in to the table when not in use. The work table folks back on itself as well.

I've read and seen videos of folks using old 15-91 machines to sew through multiple layers of leather, sunbrella, etc. Mine is no longer up to those tasks, but does very well for hammock making.

    I hear ya!
I have hung it twice in the house. Once when I finished it at about 2am to make sure it looked ok, and once yesterday to attach the tie out lines.
Its killing me that it is so cold out. Ok, cold is relative, but I'm a summer person and anything below freezing is too cold for me to go outside and hang hammock and tarp for pictures.
It may actually get to the low 40s this afternoon. If so I'll take the Ogee tarp and the new 1.1 DL hammock I made last week out for a photo op.
Oh, and the gear hammock also. I still haven't taken pictures of that yet.

Also, I just can't get over how big it feels, given the amount of fabric used. The doors on the ends, combined with the triangles on the sides provide tremendous coverage while minimizing weight... and that is just in the standard configuration. Gargoyle has posted lots of other configurations that look even more interesting. I really expected it to feel much smaller than it does.

In the mean time... here is the Ogee in the ripstop mesh stuff sack that I made last night.

I can relate -- I'm a little north of ATL and not liking 27degree nights

Have fun with the photo session!

For my money, the Ogee is the biggest little tarp out there. But then, I bring a certain bias to the table.
