My first tarp was tyvek. I searched locally for a while and finally spent $15 on ebay since I was impatient.

Threw it in the washer for an 8-minute ride, then pulled it out and added soap and clothes since I'm trying to conserve.

Worked great until some laborers found it in my back yard and used it for a paint cloth...

I used Pennies, buttons, or rocks for tie-outs. Never had a complaint. It was nice and big, (10x12) and worked great on a diagonal. Now it covers stuff outside to keep rain off of it...

I use a 9'x9' tyvek tarp tied on the diagonal. Marbles from the kid's toy box with a slip knot works great (no pebbles/rocks in my part of Florida). To address the noise issue, I just crunched the fabric up by hand (great stress reliever too).

I've been so content with the tarp setup "as is" that I have bothered to modify or replace it with a DIY nylon one as I originally planned.

Here's a good comparison of adhesives to use with Tyvek.

I am not to happy with my grommet setup and am thinking of going to the marble or rock setup. I am weary of sewing because of the perforated paper effect. If I were to do it again I think I would sew or use clips or something other then the grommets.

Quest outfitters and amazon both have the 1443 tyvek. 60". Is there a source that has wider rolls so as not to have to bond/stitch a seam?

    Hi
Bit of a NOOB question and having never dealt with tyvek ?? (other than impatiently tearing open the odd package when it's shipped in the little post bags)

What's the deal with not sewing it and just doing tarp tie out's like normal, why the rock / grommet thing.

The analogy isn't perfect, but it's close enough: imagine sewing a plastic bag.

If you haven't found any Tyvek yet, shoot me a PM.
