First DIY project, ridge bag tonight, Hammock tomorrow

Well, I want to build an UQ for the WBBB that should ship next week, and I thought the best practice project would be a hammock. I went and bought the material today, and just a little extra just in case. Once I got the hammock cut to size, and figured out how to thread the injector I lost confidence in my lack of sewing knowledge so I made a ridge bag out of the left overs for practice.

I had trouble getting a straight cut with scissors, so I ended up using a the shelve from my wifes book case and a razor blade and just a nice clean cut. Here are a few pictures, they are not good, but I will hopefully be able to get a better photo tomorrow when it is hanging on the new DIY hammock

Well, the Hammock did not go so well. I was sewing the long side, and when I got to the end, I noticed that there were 6 slits about 2" long in the material. Looks like something hit it when it was rolled up, all the slits line up. I took it back to Joann's, and they refused to exchange it. They had no problems with the 10'+ hem up the side, but because it was only 4 yards and not the full 4.5 that I purchased they would not exchange it. I was not asking for them to give me another 4.5 yards, just replace what was actually there. They did offer to sell me a new piece though. Needless to say, I was not happy at all, and have sent an email to corporate. I will not be buying from Joanns again, so I will be ordering from Backwoods this evening if I can not find it at another local dealer. I know it is cheaper at backwoods, but I got excited for the project and want to finish it now so I am willing to pay more, just not willing to get it from Joann's to do it.
