    Pad inside bag

Not something I recall coming up.

Just been away camping for 5 days. On the 2nd day the temperatures really dropped (nothing dramatic, just past -0C) and I felt it in my feet. I had taken a 3/4 length ccf pad to suppliment my UQ but I couldn't get it sitting right between the hammock's layers and my lower legs were still cold.

Out of fustration I lopped the edges off with my camp knife to fit the tapered shape of my bag and popped it in - oh my it works well! Couldn't believe I hadn't done it before. Toasty all night. Infact my lower body was so toasty I could feel the transition in temperatures to my UQ across my bum.

I figure it's gonna work a lot better in a single layer hammock, too. Every time I've tried to sleep on a pad directly in a hammock it ends up sliding about and crunching up on the sides. This way it was still in good position by morning.

    Anyone else do this?

yep, I do that sometimes... I use a thermarest prolite, not ccf. The pad always stays under you and doesn't shoot out of your hammock either.

I do, well kinda. If I'm using a pad with the WBBB, I put the pad in my fleece liner, then my bag or tq then zip up the bag liner.

    bag insert

    Yes!
I have a taffeta DIY insert sack made with a blue wally pad, cut to fit inside my Kelty Zephyr bag, and, it has 4 velcro tabs, 1 at each corner to attach to the four loops at each corner which are already provided inside the bag. The blue wally pad has 1/4" poly batting glued on with spray contact cement. A matching piece of space blanket quilted between two pieces of IX, cut to the same shape is on top of that, inside the sack. (like a pillow case) It stays put! And, it keeps the bag really spread out nicely.
Since I retired, some times I stay awake all day, some times all night.

I just made a comment about this in another post, but Big Agnes makes bags designed to slip the pad inside a sleeve in the bottom of the bag. There is no insulation in the bottom of the bag.

I just got one and I'm kind of torn on my opinion of the bag. On one hand, it's very light for a 0 degree bag and it's very warm where there is down but on the other hand Big Agnes sleep pads tend to not be that great. I heard they're coming out with a new design where you can use any sleep pad though. Plus, you could always just cut a CCF pad into shape.

I just spent a night on the ground in a tent with this bag and I noticed that whenever the "insulated" air pad slipped off my Ridge Rest Solar pad it got really cold. Thinking about replacing the air pad with some wallyworld CCF cut into shape.
