What shape is your down underquilt?

I am beginning the process and I am wondering if I need to dart, pleat, or taper cut the edges, or if I can just use a rectangle shape.

    Thanks

You want to dart. Relatively speaking, takes little more time. Literally speaking, it's no more difficult. But it's more efficient and a better fit. If you're going to invest the time and money for down, do the best you can, which is darted.

Don't take material off the sides. You want to do any shaping by taking material out of the middle.

Caveat. If you want rectangular for multifunctionality, go for it.

I make mine a parallelogram. I start with a sheet of nylon that is 6" longer than I want, then cut a triangle off of each end, the short side of the triangle being 6".

However, this assumes that you are going to sleep on the same diagonal all the time. For instance, in a Warbonnet Blackbird that is "directional".

I made mine rectangular and like JBO C said it adds multifunction works as an UQ, TQ,
    or plain old blanket.
Whatever you do you'll enjoy it cause you made it!

With the rectangular shape, do you ever run into any issues with your feet or shoulders slipping over the edge on a diagonal lay? I like the idea of multifunction (although I doubt I would use the UQ as a TQ if I had to go to ground as long as I make a TQ) and I wonder whether I'll always sleep on the same diagonal, but I'm a little concerned about "pokin' out" of the rectangle if you know what I mean.
