Not sure about the wife, but this could turn into a daddy/daughter weekend.

I've been there twice in my tenting days. Once your out of the village area its all pure wilderness, water you have to get from the lake or stock up at the village water pump. I have always stayed on the west side of the island between Johnson's and Fredrickson's place, facing the water up on a bluff. Most of the shorelines are up about 100'. The tree's are plentiful especially along the shoreline. The sunsets are awesome on the west side.

They have many rules ... like not camping at least 300 feet from any water source and no fires except at the Village fire ring.

The village has 8 small sites if your a tent camper but I believe that being out in the wilderness would be the best especially with a hammock. There are no specific sites once you head into the woods. They do request that you camp 200-300 feet away from the trails too.

I posted some pictures from my last trip there in 2007. Bugs and blacks flies are really bad in the summertime, the last two trips were in July and August and I would suggest not doing that. Oh yeah, poison ivy is very abundant there too. Oh, those are only my footprints!

I would be interested in this one but all depends on the timing ...

Going early you avoid the black flies!

I'm now constantly thinking about the next new place. Although, I'm thinking a return to Dolly Sods and the RR Gorge are going to be in my plans this year too.

Isle Royale is on my list too. My problem has been I can't find any serious backpackers in my area to go with.

So would I ... Isle Royale has always been on my list. Just finding the time and the people is the hard part. I was actually of thinking of doing this solo but the website says not too.
