Ridgeline purpose on Traveler?

I have an ENO double nest and it has no ridgeline. What is the purpose of the RL on the traveler? On my blackbird, I can tell that the RL needs a fair amount of sag or else it gets too much of a ridge under my calves. If I start hooking things to the RL or the suspension of the hammock at all, it increases the tension and makes the ridge. So I'm not sure if I like an attached RL on a simple hammock. What's the deal?

Mine is an Opie adjustable ridgeline.
Once its two finger strumming tight I know I've got my sag right.
It also keeps my MacIX with SEEP off my face, give a place to hang my watch and headlamp.
Is it a have to accesory, no but once I dialed in the length it makes setup much faster.
In a couple of weeks it will hold my SMC (shug moisture catcher) bib style (thanks Shug for that awesome ide).

Ridgelines allow you get a consistent sag, a place to hang stuff like a little gear bag and oF course it is necessary if you want to use a bugnet.

I have a new Traveler that I haven't had a chance to use yet. Last summer I used a Trek Light double which is very similar to your ENO. I added a RL, and was happy with the consistent sag it gave me for a flat lay. I never had any trouble with hanging things on it making it too tight. I have a feeling I might have to shorten the one on the Traveler, but don't know yet????

I look at RLs like this...they are a yard stick! Some people can eyeball 3' really close and others can't and use a yard stick.

The RL is the yard stick...it measures how your hammock is hangin so you can be more consistant when you hang it up. If you dont need it, dont use it.

I took the RL off my Traveler because I find I can eyball my comfort zone plus I just like having the air around me open. If you can get comfy with your ENO then you probably don't need the RL on your Traveler.
