    Is all webbing the same?

Hello, I'm new to this forum and I've been trying to get an idea of what I can build with materials I can find in the stores here in Northern Nova Scotia.

I saw some webbing in Canadian Tire, made by Coughlans I believe, but I wasn't sure if it would be strong enough for tree huggers...

Anyone know if there's a hugh difference between manufacturers of webbing? Is size the only real factor of strength?

There are hundreds of different kinds of webbing, more kinds than you can imagine. Some are strong enough but still not suited to hammock use. Some are no where close to strong enough. There are dozens of threads on webbing types and where they can be found....cough......that work well for hammock suspensions.

there are several vendors on HF that sell webbing, and their prices are inline with most anything you will find on the net, and their customer service is great, if you do go elsewhere make sure you buy polyester webbing and not nylon as nylon stretches when it gets wet

I was kind of wondering the same thing. Got a thread injector coming and have always loved making my own gear. Thought I would start off easy by making some longer tree huggers. Would be nice if we knew some Canadian suppliers of materials as well.

Living in Canada and having a harder time of finding much of these 'needed' items, many of HF's vendors have been great to work with and offer comparable shipping to Canada. That being said, scouring the internet can be more time-consuming but offer other avenues for said needed items - especially if larger quantities are desired. For example, I purchased my strapping from a shipper supply company in rolls of 150' to 300' which has worked out great so far. I have had similar luck with cordage.

But for starting out, your best bet is to contact some of HF's vendors and pick their brains.

    Not to besmirch Couglahns,

but you just don't know what is in that blister pack! Buying from AHE, JRB etc will take longer for international shipping, but at least you can trust what you get.

Remember, a suspension failure can result in anything from mild discomfort for a slow fall up to life-threatening for a catastrophic failure that dumps you onto rocks. IMO, the cheap stuff is not worth the gamble.

PS: Oh, yeah. Welcome to HF!

Car seatbelts from the scrapyard make good tree huggers, I made a few longer sets up when I used to hang a Hennessy

Thanks for the input and welcomes... I knew it was too good to be true, it can't be that easy to find all this stuff

pgibson - I tried to check out your store, but the pictures are working. I tried it in Chrome and IE
