    Fill power ratings

I'm wondering if anyone knows the answer to the following questions.

I'm looking at the JRB quilts and see they have introduced the option of 900 fill power. My understanding my be off but I'm wondering if there is less ounces of 900 fill than 800 fill thereby making the quilt lighter but rated for the same temps or if there is equal ounces of down thereby making the 900 fill a warmer quilt. I'm guessing it's option one where both quilts are rated to the same temp but I would like to know for sure based on the next question.

I sent an email to the jacks about a year ago asking if I could send one of their quilts back to get overstuffed. I got no reply. Does anyone know if they/any other service would do this? I find there is still room for plenty of down to be added in both quilts that I have. It seems I need to get them overstuffed in order for down to fill the whole quilt. As it is now if I hold either quilt lengthwise down will only fill about 3/4 of the quilt...maybe a bit more.

I agree with the understuffed appearance.

When I open my box of JRB quilts, I thought there was a lot of room in those shells for more down.

Now, don't get me wrong, I have been happy with the performance of the JRB quilts but they are not as "puffy" as I was expecting.
    Love my JRB BMB

I recently sent a pm to Pan about this issue. He stated that the 900 fill will lighten it by 1.5oz and not change the temp rating. So it is option one as you stated.

Good to know. For some reason I dont have good luck emailing them directly. I tend to get a faster response by sending a pm or posting here.

No problem! Generally I have gone the pm route with questions or requests from vendors that frequent HF. They seem to get back to me pretty quick.

The fill power number is the number of cubic inches one ounce of down will fill when fully lofted.
One ounce of 900 fp fills 900 cubic inches.
One ounce of 600fp will only fill 600 C.I so for the same weight, you will have less insulation.
To reverse it, for the same temp rating, 600 fp will be much heavier than 900 fp.

I've had good luck with pm's on here with Pan. A short phone call is a sure way of getting the answer you need too.
