Nice....well i just got back from HD with all the materials. haha! regarding the 2x2's, all i saw was untreated redwood, so i'm going with that for now. if i have to replace later on, that will be fine...just want to get this setup and feel it out.

i wonder if this same concept could be duplicated using some sort of carbon fiber posts??? is this possible?

Besides redwood's 'softness', i think its probably a great wood for the project. Redwood probably doesnt need to be treated either

Carbon fiber? Why not titanium? Lol. Overkill, but would certainly be sweet!

Hppyfngy, Those angles are exactly what I had invisioned and the way that I'll do my next. With just the squared ends at the hinge it's a chore to get every thing lined up.

OD, there's still a little fiddle factor involved, but the angles do make it easier.

No trouble at all, it's set up in "der inventing room."

The tripod feet are exactly 38" od from one to the other.

Just built my first today. 3/4" Sch80 pvc pipe for tripods. Tried using a 1 1/4" piece for ridgepole, but it flexed too much. Stuck a 2x4 in there and works great as a stopgap until i can run to store again. Thanks TL this is way portable! I love it, and I LOVE the physics involved

BTW prussik knots are COOL ha

How is this pvc version holding up? Any bowing of the pvc?

Interested in the PVC status as well. Would like to see someone make an extendable pvc version that could compress for even smaller packing!

PVC has little to no bowing - I have no doubt this stand will hold up longer than I'll want to use it.

I believe my "spread" was 2 ft leg-to-leg

I strongly urge anyone making a TL stand with PVC to be certain to get SCHEDULE 80 PVC pipes. It has thicker walls than Schedule 40. 441797_f496.jpg Enjoy!!!!

You are absolutely correct. ID wall thickness is what makes it usable. Sch 40 is too light to be hanging from and can easily be bent.
