I did do some curing on the grill. Mostly just for pest abatement since the bamboo was cut and sitting forma bit when ingot to it but it did strengthen things up pretty well. I do have one cracked pole but the rest seem solid.

I "cooked" it for about 2-4 min per side and just kept feeding it thorough the grill. Wiped the resin off after it cooked. So far so good.

My Finished Stand and a few observations.

So I finished my stand Friday morning in time for a 3 day camping trip.

Setup Saturday Morning after one night

    Breaking Down Sunday Afternoon

First Observation - After setting up my stand and hammock for the weekend, The first night I went off well. The stand suffered a little leg creep but nothing to major.

Second Observation - A major electrical storm will make you think twice about sleeping in a hammock with a galvanized steel pole suspended above your head. For safety reasons campers were asked stay in their cars on Saturday night. So much for a comfortable nights sleep

Third Observation - The second night of the trip we had a major storm role through as stated above. High winds, heavy rain and lots of lightning. The design held up very well against the high winds and rain that pummeled the stand. I think next time I'll bring a 10x10 tarp so I can have a little more side room. The hammock stayed dry with my configuration, so I don't feel a need to get any longer than 0r wider than 10x10.

That looks great! I enjoy seeing lashing instead of hinges. Are those 2x2's?

Yes. I started with 8' 2x2s and cut them to 6'6"

    Three part Ridgepole??

Has anybody used three 5' section of fence rail for a 15' ridgepole? I have concerns about doing it but want a longer ridgeline for tarp needs and also for a 90"x 132" tablecloth hammock I have. Anybody try this before and if so to what success? Thanks for any input.

Here a link to my 16' four piece ridge pole, but it's not fence rail...http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...&postcount=613

If the fence rail doesn't have too much slop at the joints, it should work.

The fence rail inserts a good 3 inches and is fairly snug. I wouldn't think another joint would be a problem at all.

I do remember coming across that thread before and I do live in PA. That may be next one once my bamboo starts to fail.

Thanks for you input and I am gonna pull the trigger on the 15' ridgepole and will let you know of the results. Thanks again.

Pappy, Thank you. I lost track -- do I have a stand with three sections? LOL. Yes, for portability, but also because I have to fit all my hammocking and camp gear in a sedan with my festival booth gear when I travel for business. I am on the road now. The ridgepole of the stand I am using this weekend is in four sections.
