Thanks guys. I have my shopping list and should hopefully report back tomorrow night once it's done. I'll be using hinges and two 6' top rails. Wish me luck.

Did you simply bolt the three pieces of PVC together? I'm considering going this route as well for portability. Do you have any close-ups of it completely set up with the ridge pole, etc?

    Thanks,

    Thanks,
You might want to clarify what post you're referring to as there hasn't been much PVC used in this thread.

For a good point of reference for those trying: 1.25 inch pvc should be good for 3 feet. I tried to make something one foot longer and it curved more than my 3 feet pole did once I tried to have it support my weight. Note this was on another project.
Tag with Home if your thread is more about home hammocks. Thanks!

That looks like a very simple idea. Question how did you cure the bamboo?

What about using 1.375-in 18-Gauge Galvanized Steel Chain-Link Fence Top Rail for not only the cross bar, but for the tripod legs as well? In two pieces for each leg for collapsible portability. The piece that fits inside the other rail should be kept together safely enough with just gravity and my weight. I'm thinking of using this with a 6-in gate hinge and paracord about a foot from the ground to keep from spreading. Also thinking of coating all the metal in something to make waterproof and to keep from corroding over time.

Pretty cheap at $2.10 each from Lowes.

What's $2.10 from Lowes? That top rail you linked to is $10.77

Maybe it's location dependent. It's definitely $2.10 when I go to that link.

Pretty sure everybody is paying about $10 for those. Buy all you can for $2.
