I may have found someone that wants his bamboo "forest" cleared, If there is anyone in the northeast Ga. area that may want some let me know maybe we can help this old fellow out and get some bamboo for ourselves.... I should find out more tonight.

Cool, Bchboy! Keep us posted!

Surely, God could have made a better way to sleep.
Surely, God never did.
I saw "turtlelady's bamboo hammock stand" and immediately thought "well, no bamboo around here, and anyway I am a steel and aluminum sort of guy".
So, I didn't even look at the post. My foolish.
There are enough great ideas in these threads to keep my mind churning ffor days, if not weeks! I am going to fabricate a "turtlelady stand" from fencing materials. I had been looking at the available pieces, but had not decided on which direction to go - rigid stand, guyed bipods, or alien technology.
But the structural ridgepole concept is golden! A tip of my Tilley Hat to you.

Have you checked out the folding stand made of 2x4s?
I'm between this twin tripod stand and that one. I'm comparing weight, convenience, set up size, ease of build, folded/disassembled size, cost. Maybe I should do both and compare.
I'm planning on making one this weekend out of electrical conduit like treeslayer did...but it occurs to me to wonder whether I'd be able to drill the holes in the pipe, since I don't have a drill press or such (just a regular 18V variable-speed drill). I wonder if I could get away with just a vice to hold the pipe still, or if one of these might be a viable alternative to connecting the three poles into a tripod:
90-degree corner swivel kit
Or, given the expense of the fittings, whether I could tak them into drilling the holes for me at Home Depot before I leave
