Places to hang between Birmingham Al and New Albany Ms

Looking for potential places to hang for a upcoming trip. Looking for a drive in site at a state park or similar type location.

Will be traveling from NC to Ft Smith Arkansas early March to visit daughter and first grandchild (wife says she is not old enough to be a grandmother ).

Will be taking I-20 to Birmingham Al and then I-22 to Tupelo or New Albany Mississippi and then cutting across to Arkansas to pick up I-40. I want to avoid Memphis TN. I have never been to northern Alabama or Mississippi and I want to travel thru an area I have never visited before.

Looking for recommendations for places between Birmingham Al and New Albany Miss.

Any where along the natchez trace is awesome. Tons of hammock trees.

Do you mean a state park somewhere near to the trace? Like Tishomingo, for example? Because I don't think you could hang actually on the Trace. Well, maybe for a couple of hours on a picnic( if rangers didn't see you), but not over night.

Trace State Park 6 miles west of Tupelo has a nice lake and hiking trails and many(most?) sights have good hanging trees. No one has ever objected to me hanging there yet.

And of course, Sipsey Wilderness just north west of Double Springs AL on Hwy 278, or just south west of Moulton, AL.

Yea, hanging just anywhere along the trace over nite is prohibited, darn it. I didn't do a very good job of explaining that.
I was suggesting taking the trace from where ever you can get on it in MS on your way to N AL and hitting up one of the
    campground along the way.

    Current camp ground list.

If your thinking of checking out Cheaha State park try this area : http://www.fs.fed.us/r8/alabama/recr...rnipseed.shtml. It is a primative area with pit toilets and is just down the road from Cheaha.
