Which model should I look at? I want to stay light.

Note my earlier post that refers to the new style. The side zip is within a couple of years old. HH took a lot of heat on the forums for having only a bottom entry model (which many people do not like at all.) They redesigned their offerings to include a side zip style. However, unless you get the bottom entry style and mod it with zippers (2Q/ZQ style) you can only have one option from the factory. Either side zip or bottom entry.

One other option would be to tie a line from your ridge line to a tree on your exit side (if using a side zip model. This would require a unique tarp set-up but I can envision it working if the tarp had side pull-outs.

I used this set up for my indoor sleeper. But I have not found it to be practical for field use. Just my own experience. YMMV

Depends on what you define as "near". Closest would be probably 2-2.5 hours by car. Doable but certainly not a quick stop. That said... I've been known to show up at some sites with a little trail magic.

I will modding my HH Exped with 2QZq shortly, so I will have the options of bottom entry or side.

I have found that even with the bottom entry, I was crunchin-up some of the hammock material on either side to pull myself back into it to a reasonable position, so I will be adding "Grab Loops" of either Amsteel or Paracord on both sides, tied-of to the head end of the hammock, and resting inside. that way, I can simply reach up on either side, or both, and use them to pull myself further in, without damaging the hammock material. One could aslo be used to pull myself up to a sitting position with the side entry. Either way, they should add some needed functionality to the hammock.

I think grab loops might be the way to go. Maybe with a piece of bungie running from head to foot so there easier to find.

I reach back and grab a bunch of the fabric to help me slide in and slide out. I have considered the pull straps but am concerned they would concentrate the stress over a smaller area and therefore weaken the fabric more than just grabbing a handful. YMMV. N
Do not grab just the bug net or the ridgeline as both are somewhat nore prone to stress than a handful of the hammock fabric.

Green it would be great to meet some of you that I've seen on the forum for so long. I know I'm going to get to meet Dutch. It would be cool if the timing and life work out that I can meet as many of you as possible.
