That's my plan! I'm hoping that just adding that strip will solve my problems with any compression of my UQ and condensation all in one shot. I'm gonna be in Kansas next month and will MOST CERTAINLY want some wind protection. Flying houses are a b&$%h to deal with! Note to self: need to buy ruby-red crocs.

Just keep repeating, "there's no place like home"...

Sounds great. I know it's really pretty up where you live. My inlaws live in Hinton, WV. I'd love to get up there and explore some (and do some rafting). Maybe this year...

I haven't decided yet. If the nonet Claytor had come in I would have taken it just to try it out.

I may take both since it is only a 3 mile hike in. I will take my insul mat max pad and a 1/2" ccf pad with me that way I can use either one or both if needed.

I am more interested on how I will do backpacking which is why this is a short hike in. I did do a short 4 mile dayhike last weekend that went well.

I keep forgetting you're still in recovery mode. I hope it goes well for you; I like short hikes sometimes. I get the benefits of 'getting away' and a few heavy luxury items; usually a fishing pole and a small tackle box.

I'm hitting the AT to finish up for a week or so if that counts. Hopefully the lost hiker story plays itself out before I get there next week.

I'm on a gear sewing retreat right now. I'm starting with making 4 Climashield quilts (for the 4 of us). I may attempt my first ever homemade hammock after those. Gotta get my daughters off the ground

I have a list of projects a mile long. I have a feeling I'm not alone here... lol

I am following that on WB as well. I am hoping for the best.

Patrick, there are some REALLY beautiful areas to hike/camp in WV. I am not very familiar with the Hinton area, & what it has to offer, but Dolly Sods (part of the Monongahela National Forest) is freaking amazing. I discovered it for the first time in the early fall.... A wonderful place.

This is from the top of the ridge there, on the eastern boundary of the Forest. Bascially drove right up to it. The password to access these links is "pwd".

This is from a loop we did (around 8 or 9 miles) the highlight to the place was a boulder patch called Lions Head on the Rocky Point Trail.

I dont think I labeled any of the photos, & didnt really discriminate when I loaded them to PB. So there are some goofy pics in there. I am the guy with the blue pack BTW. That loop was the second of what I consider a real hike for me. Away from my normal stomping grounds here in Charleston, and varied terrain, with a pack..

My first was around 7 miles, but basically all flat. That was in Cranberry Glades.. also in the Mon Forest, but much farther south. This was my first real effort to hike away from home, with terrain I was unfamiliar with. A very beautiful place. These are pics from that area.

Other geocaching hikes that we did that day...

none of those were huge, but pretty none the less.

The irony of hiking in those places, were that I likely exert more effort on the hills, etc at the local state forest. Realizing that really removed my doubts of being able to handle "real hiking". I urge anyone who wants to hike to hit up either of these locations... Its a real outdoorsmans paradise.
