My cousin and I are big elk hunters. We were looking at doing some backcountry hunts.
Would I ever love to see the pics coming from that. Please don't go so "light' that you don't take a camera!

go with easy to setup and adj suspension straps. Just what is that? only you'll know that after you play around with gear a bit. I'm always setting up after dark, so quick and easy is what I'm after. Carabiner to clip to tree, cinch buckle for quick adj.

I use a warbonnet black bird, it has a double ended stuff sack and that makes things easy to deploy and strike.

I agree with others, a big nice tarp. When the weather gets bad, why worry? Laugh at the rain! Drybag stuff sack to put it in. use nice stakes, I like msr ground hogs. have extra cord .....

Down, for your underquilt and sleeping bag. It costs, but it's oh soooo warm!

Test, test, test! when it gets nasty out, go set up in the backyard and see how it goes. adjust as necessary. Do it in the dark .......

Everyone has their own preference. I normally take the WBBB 1.1 db. with 3/4 UQ that WB sells. I made my own shelter mainly to use as a base camp and put a ti-goat stove in it for the cold evenings.
So, when I'm backpacking into an area to hunt, I use a hammock and my smokehouse when cold.

Using the hammock as a "blind"? Thats an interesting concept! Hmmm, that confirms it, got to get the Zipper Mod for my HH!

I've used my hammock setup for a blind for duck hunting from for years now, it's great for sitting sideways on when your set up over decoys, or if the ducks aren't flying to just kickback a read for a while till something turns up.

    Cool!

I was thinking more of early morning photography though, not in to hunting much anymore.
