Ah yes... i sense the beginnings of an all out IX PRICE WAR!!!

well, or at least a little friendly competition.

Looking forward to the pack design as well.
I'm still undecided on what type of pack I'll make next.
The GVP G4 Scout i made in the fall was pretty straight forward, but too big for my son.
I hope that your new design will be readily scalable for different sized hikers.

I made a G4 as well. I hated it. That's not a knock against the G4 mind you - it's a fine pack, just not for me. What it did love about the G4 is that it taught me how to build a backpack - at least the basics. They're not so hard as I had imagined. So I'll finish up the new design and do what I can to encourage others to tackle it.

Having a scaleable model is easy, designing adjustable waistbelt/shoulder strap positioning isn't so simple - but that's something I'm working on.

I might put out plans for different versions - side pockets/no side pockets, top cover/roll top enclosure... etc. The model I just built was too tall for me, probably an approx. 60-65 L size, but the shoulder straps were too high past the hipbelt for me. I want that part to be adjustable rather than fixed - no true solution on that yet though.

I currently have a pack in development where the plan for the shoulder straps is to use an H-harness like this (except I'll be making it) and the back of the harness has a PALS array on it and a corresponding PALS array on the backpack, then you just weave them both together "MOLLE style" as high or low as you need it. Don't know if thats helpful info or not but it might plant a seed...
    Good luck,

Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

Now if SOMEBODY would sell a cheap set of pack straps and waist belt, I'd be sold on DIY'ing a pack...
