    Suspension question

Anyone here had any issues with using Amsteel or other smaller diameter line for suspension? I'm new to hammock camping and only have DIY hammocks I've made from several different fabrics including ripstop, but I worry about using smaller line to connect directly to the hammock because I think with use, the smaller cordage will cut into the hammock material and eventually cause it to rip. I thought about using a sheath made of stronger material to protect the hammock where the suspension lines connect. I also have several hundred feet of seat belt webbing that I thought of using to connect the suspension. Currently I'm using some braided boat anchor rope from Academy Sports that is 3/8" but want to go smaller eventually.

I am using a 7/64 amsteel whoopie sling in the channel ends of my claytor with no issues. I am 250 lbs. Attached to webbing with toggle. I hung 200+ nights last year with it.

All of my hammocks are using amsteel in one form or another as attachment points for the suspension to the hammock. They are fed through channels as on my ENO's and whipped as on my BB DL 1.7.

I use 7/64th in the channels of all my parachute nylon hammocks. They show no signs of wear and tear so far. Certainly wouldn't hurt to use some kind of sheath. You could take some paracord or some other cordage that has a core, remove the core and use the reaminder as a sheath.

no matter what rope you hang with or what ropes you use as guylines on your tarps... It's ALWAYS a good idea to keep a check on your connection points and your knots. Any equipment can become frayed with use and it's better to notice this when you're in a place that you can repair your gear, rather than in a camping situation out in the woods and have a major failure.
I use whoopies on my Clark suspension and through the end channels of the hammock. The only problem I've had with this rope was when I first started using 7/64ths amsteel and I'd used a bowline knot to connect. It slipped!!! I've not had any problems with the rope wearing through my hammock. I have had problems with my homemade tarp connections and I've reinforced those.

Can you post some pics of your setup please? I want to replace my clark suspension after I get my amsteel in and would like to see some pics from other clark owners who have done this. Thanks.
