    Zing-It and Figure 9's

I have been using 1/8" polyester line for my continuous ridgelines, and am happy with it's performance, but I have a new Superfly and a spool of 1.75 mm Zing It and got to wondering. I have been using a small Figure 9 for tensioning the RL but I wonder if the teeth will cause problems with the Zing it? I assume NO, but I ask for other opinions.

Those teeth can't be good for any cordage. I view lines and webbing as expendable items, and just keep an eye on them. Replace as necessary.

Been using small metal figure 9's with 1.75mm Zing-it for a long time with no problems.
Each hang is different so the point of abrasion moves. But like oldgringo said, all lines are temporary.

I have filed off the teeth on both size figure 9s I have. The big ones I have I used to hang my Hennessey and the smalls I use on my tarp. I found that as long as the V cut squeezes the cord you are good. I always put a half hitch or an extra wrap for just in case but have never had any issues.

Ditto, I have been using the small 9's with 1.75 zing it. I put in a couple of extra loops on the teeth side because I think it is at the lower limit for diameter. Works well.

    Sounds like it will work.

Especially considering that it is far easier to cut the polyester than it is to cut the Zing it. I guess I just have yet to wrap my brain around these new-fangled synthetics!

    Thanks all.

I would be a bit leary of using a figure 9 for my hammock suspension. They're only rated for 150lbs, as you probably know. Those things aren't just gonna bend when they fail, they're gonna snap. Just thought I would let you know, sounds like you've had good luck with them so far.
