    DIY stuffsacks

You all have been kind enough to link me to DIY stuffsack kits, but I wondered if there was an online resource that gave you a step by step (ala the guides here for hammock crafting) to tell you what you need, & how to cut & sew your own stuff sacks?

A quick Google search reveals this.

Missed your post Sparrow, you can also be da man.

Do you guys with experience believe there is any value to sealing your stuff sacks? That Sil-Net sealant seems pricey for a small amount of goop.

It depends entirely on how much moisture you're going to expose your gear to. If it's enough that you're relying on the sealing of each individual sack, then your gear is going to get wet anyway, likely.

Here is an excellent article on the topic.

Many of us get a tube of silicone and water it down with mineral spirits. It has worked 100% for me so far.

I read it somewhere, that the seam sealer can also be viewed as additional reinforcement for the stitching? I.e, if you put a lot of pressure on the sack stuffing and overstuffing, the seam sealer might be a - very - marginal help.

I do it simple and easy, takes less than 5 minutes.

start with a rectangle ( or square)

lay it flat, hem the long top edge, slide 550/para cord thru ( I remove the inner white cord first)

then fold it side to side, sew the long edge, then the bottom edge, then turn it inside out.

I use some zig zag stitching right where the drawstring comes out to reinforce it.

    easy and fast.
